The Boy from the Woods
by Harlan Coban

View in Library Catalog

The beauty of this book is that although the story is engaging, the characters are so well developed, that I found them to be the best part of the book. While the book is titled The Boy from the Woods, it’s not really about him, but about how things unfold around him. It’s more about the terrible tying times of high school and adolescence and what happens when those who go unpunished for their crimes as a youth grow up to be an adult and view themselves above it all. This is a great book.

While this book addressed an important issue, namely the treatment of Chinese Americans, I did not find it that enjoyable. It has some very funny parts, but the format of the book, being that of a screen play, was not to my liking.

Claymore Manga
by Norihiro Yagi

Although I like anime, I've never really taken to manga. On a whim, I grabbed Claymore from the library shelf. After seeing the dismemberment within the first few pages, I knew I'd enjoy this. The art, though simple, tells the story well. The plotline and characters are clearly established and are quite adventurous. I wound up reading the first volume before I left the library.
